Resurfacing Concrete Structures in Ventura County, CA
Our Resurfacing Focus: Knockdown & Skip Trowel
At JH3 Company, we specialize exclusively in spray-applied texture resurfacing to restore and beautify existing concrete surfaces in our coverage areas of Ventura County, CA, and select cities in Santa Barbara County and Los Angeles County.
Our process involves applying a durable, thin layer over your existing concrete to provide a decorative, fresh, slip-resistant finish.
Defining Our System
We utilize two primary texture finishes applied over a preparatory base layer. This thin, specialized system is sometimes referred to in the industry as a “polymer overlay,” or “concrete overlay”, but we call it Concrete Resurfacing.
The Foundation: Skim Coat
A skim coat is the essential first step in our process. It is a very thin, foundational layer of polymer-modified cement applied directly to your prepped concrete.
- Purpose: To fill minor pits and cracks, smooth out slight imperfections, and create a clean, uniform surface to ensure the new decorative texture bonds perfectly.
The Decorative Layer: Knockdown & Skip Trowel
These are the final, decorative texture options we offer.
Knockdown Texture (Our Most Popular)
The Knockdown finish is a durable, stucco-like texture that provides excellent grip, making it a popular choice for pool decks.
- How it looks: Material is sprayed onto the surface to create small peaks, then a trowel is lightly used to “knock down” the tops of those peaks, flattening them out. This creates a soft, subtle pattern.
Before vs After
Skip Trowel Texture
The Skip Trowel finish provides a more artistic, custom, and rustic appearance.
- How it looks: The material is applied with a trowel that is “skipped” or dragged randomly across the surface. This leaves behind small, uneven patches of material, creating a unique, hand-crafted texture with movement and depth.

What We Don’t Offer
We specialize exclusively in thin-layer cementitious resurfacing—a product commonly known as a concrete overlay. Therefore, we do not offer stamped concrete resurfacing (which involves deep pattern imprinting), epoxy floor refinishing (which is a resin-based coating system), or other non-textured decorative concrete finishes like polished concrete. Our specialty remains the protective, textured, and highly slip-resistant knockdown and skip trowel finishes.
Resurfacing Concrete Pool Decks
Why go through the hassle and expense of removing and replacing old, cracked, and discolored pool deck concrete when you can simply resurface it?
We can resurface your pool deck with either knockdown or skip trowel finishes that enhance your outdoor décor.
Long term, these applications provide a beautiful, long-lasting, and easy-to-maintain finish for virtually any existing concrete pool deck.
It’s important to note that our signature textured finishes provide a slip-resistant surface that is comfortable for bare feet.
